Heads of prayer camps have been asked to encourage members who report sick of strange diseases to go to hospital for HIV/AIDS Voluntary Testing and Counselling.
The results will enable the camp leaders to know the type of intervention required for the members in distress and unhealthy conditions.
The Eastern Regional Focal Person on HIV/AIDS, Ms Golda Asante made the call when members of the Eastern Regional AIDS Committee paid a working visit to the Nazareth Evangelical Christian Ministry Prayer Camp, at Odumase-Krobo on Wednesday.
The Church in addition to its healing activities operates a care and support programme for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), in the area.
Ms. Asante explained that more often some people suffering from HIV/AIDS visit prayer camps with complains of other diseases.
He called on District Health Directorates in the Region to ensure that nurses and counsellors offered support for prayer camps, especially those with persons infected with HIV.
Ms. Asante appealed to members of the Lower Manya District Directorate of Health Service to organize training programmes on HIV/AIDS and care and support for PLWHA, heads of faith based- organizations and Traditional Birth Attendants in the district.
She said that this would enable them participate in the programmes aimed at reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS in the region.
