The historic World Classical Tamil Conference, which began here on Wednesday trumpeting the
rich culture and tradition of Tamil Nadu, has become a rare treat for movie buffs in the state.
Film actors who have been reigning the hearts of film lovers in the state for three generations attended the inaugural function of the event.
When the titans of Kollywood gathered together, Tamilians, known for their movie craze, celebrated the occasion as yet another blockbuster, witnesses said.
"It is a proud moment for Tamil and Tamilians world over for having an important conference of the language," said Vijayakumar, a senior actor.
He praised Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for his efforts to bring all Tamilians under one roof.
"The credit for this successful meet should go to Karunanidhi, since he had taken efforts to bring President Pratibha Patil to inaugurate the conference," said Prabhu, son of legendary actor late Shivaji Ganesan.
Third generation actor Prashanth was happy that the conference was being held when the younger generation was "forgetting Tamil and going for westernized culture."
"This is the first experience for me of attending such a big conference. This would be in the minds of youths for long," Prashanth said.
A host of actors including Thiagarajan, Prakash Raj and Rajesh also attended the meeting.
