Some 187 public schools in Awutu Senya District have been supplied with 166,000 exercise books for distribution to pupils under the government's free exercise books programme.
Pupils in Primary one to Primary three will receive four books each, primary four to six pupils will be given six books each while Junior High School students will get 13 books each.
Speaking at a function to lunch the free text books programme in the district at Senya Breaku Dr Nuhun Adams, the District Chief Executive, advised the pupils to study hard and avoid acts that would jeopardise their future.
Mr David Nana Larbie, Member of Parliament of Awutu Senya, said the provision of books was fulfilment President John Atta Mills' campaign
promise.
Mr Onasis Kwaku Anderson, a member of Awutu Senya District Assembly, commended the government and expressed the hope that other teaching and learning materials would also be provided.
He expressed dissatisfaction at the conduct of some teachers in the district who allegedly collect unauthorized fees from parents as extra
classes fees and appealed to Ghana Education Service to investigate.
Mr Anderson appealed to the government to complete school structures that had been abandoned in various communities in the district.
