A Member of the Council of State, Dr Ato Essuman has charged university graduates to use part of resources they acquire to support their families and the needy in society.
"When you turn your good fortunes into a chance for others, you then will not only be leaders in your individual contribution, but you will become the leaders of this country," Dr Essuman said at the 44th Congregation of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on Monday.
Six hundred and sixty-seven students graduated at the university this year.
Dr Essuman, who was the former Chief Director of the Ministry of Education, hoped the institution had imbued in the graduands values such as courtesy, consideration and self-respect, respect for others and authority, which were the foundations of a civilized society.
He urged them to be agents of change in their societies.
He advised the graduands to network with alumni of their faculty, college or university friends, relatives and business acquaintances when looking for jobs.
"The more people with, which you network, the more leads you are likely to generate," he urged the graduands.
Dr Essuman, an alumnus of KNUST, also cautioned them against being under the illusion that they were more important than those, who sponsored their university education, and those they left behind in their homes and communities.
"Wherever you go, whatever you do, please be mindful of the fact that life is not just qualification, a job, money or marriage. You will soon appreciate that with your university degree, you may still be so much reliant and depended on people, who you never considered will matter in your life," the Council of State Member advised.
He cautioned them against having the hope that the class they obtained at the university was what was going to determine how life would treat them.
Dr Essuman further urged the graduands to always remember that greatness in life came with the tenacity of purpose, perseverance and
resilience in all endeavours.
Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa, Vice-Chancellor of the University urged
the graduands to position themselves for the challenges of life.
He hoped that with discipline, hard work and perseverance they would succeed.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is also the Chancellor of the University, commended the graduands, the lecturers and the Vice-Chancellor for their good work for the institution.
