The Reverend Seth Mawutor, the Resident Pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, Ho, has advised parents to treat their children with dignity and respect.
He said children were gifts from God and must not be used as objects for seeking money or comfort.
Rev. Mawutor said this when the Seed of Righteousness Children's Ministry, a Ho based Christian non-governmental organization, feted over 100 deprived children in the Ho Municipal area.
The children, selected from some basic schools, churches and some communities, drunk, ate and received some clothing.
Rev. Mawutor said children must not be treated as slaves, burdened with dozens of house chores.
He explained that while it was important that children acquire skills in doing some house chores, parents and guardians must do that in love and help with the house chores themselves.
Rev. Mawutor said this way children would not consider house chores as punishment.
Ms Rebecca Boateng, Director of Seed of Righteousness Children's Ministry, said children needed to be given great care and love.
She, therefore, charged parents, guardians and teachers to demonstrate these to children in their daily interactions with them.
Mr Atsu Havor, Ho Municipal Director of the Department of Social Welfare, stated that child neglect and maintenance remained one of the top
cases with the Department and charged parents to learn to be responsible.
He commended Seed of Righteousness for the initiative and called on other NGOs to support deprived children without necessarily
"institutionalizing them."
