The Ashanti Regional Voltarian Co-ordinating Council (VCC) has extended its warmest felicitations to Ghanaian women on the occasion of the commemoration of this year's 'Mothers Day' celebration.
It said since pre-colonial era, women had played key roles in various capacities, especially in the struggle for Ghana's independence and also continues to serve as agents of change for the sustainable socio-economic development of the nation.
The VCC urged women to use the occasion to assess themselves to identify where they fell short so as to make amends.
This was contained in a congratulatory message signed by Togbuii Mawufeame Fugah, the President, and issued in Kumasi at the weekend.
It appealed to policymakers and stakeholders to create an enabling environment and also commit resources for the empowerment of women through
financial support, skill acquisition programmes and encouraging them to take up leadership positions.
The VCC was not happy that in spite of the inroads made by women, they continue to be marginalized and in some cases discriminated against.
It said it was high time the nation recognized women and worked towards doing away with socio-cultural and religious practices that impeded their total development, to benefit the nation.
The VCC also challenged women in leadership positions to regularly interact with less-privileged women with the motive of mentoring them to stand up to the challenges that inhibited their progress to improve their living conditions.
