An Akim Swedru Circuit Court in the Birim South District, on Friday sentenced an 18-year-old unemployed, Ebenezer Boadi, to 18 months imprisonment for stealing two foldable iron chairs valued at GH¢80.00.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and the court presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah convicted and sentenced him accordingly.
Confirming the story, Police Inspector Wilberforce Kwaku Appiah told the Ghana News Agency that between 2030 hours and 2300 hours of May 3, this year, Boadi, unemployed who lives, entered the Ntiamoah Hotel at Akim Oda where a birthday party was going on.
He said while the invitees were heartily drinking and dancing, one of the employees of the hotel detected that two or chairs at the premises had disappeared.
The hotel attendant immediately reported the matter to the proprietor of the hotel who also enquired from the watchman, but the watchman who had no idea about the disappearance of the chairs, rushed on to the street outside where he spotted Boadi carrying chairs.
The watchman confronted him and a misunderstanding ensued between them.
In the process a police patrol team arrived and picked the watchman, and Boadi to the Akim Oda Police Station.
It was revealed at the Police station that the chairs Boadi was carrying had been stolen from the hotel. He was put before court and
convicted on the count of unlawful entry and stealing.
