A circuit court at Asamankese, on Wednesday jailed Kwabena Kankani, a farmer, for 12 months for possessing Indian hemp.
Kankani, who pleaded not guilty, was also fined GHc 1,200 in default he would serve additional six months in prison.
Police Chief Inspector Kate Ogyiri told the court presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Siameh that on August 8, 2007, the Police at Asamankese had a tip off that some people were smoking Indian hemp in a house in the town.
She said that when the Police arrested Kankani in the house,they found a wrapper containing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in his pocket but he denied ownership of the stuff.
Chief Insp. Ogyiri said that the forensic laboratory in Accra confirmed that the stuff was Indian hemp.
