The Kumasi Diocesan Association of Methodist Men's Fellowship, has rolled out a five-year strategic plan to help grow and deepen the church's contribution towards the nation's socio-economic transformation.
The plan among other things would roll out a scholarship scheme to assist brilliant but needy children and orphans to pursue education careers.
Professor Peter Gyau, former lecturer of the Faculty of Agriculture at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, launching the plan at the Suame Emmanuel Methodist Church in Kumasi, said the strategic plan tied in with the Church's vision and mission of promoting spiritual growth and physical development of the people.
He said it would also lead to the building of a vibrant and spirit-led Men's Fellowship within the church who could transform people in
society.
Prof Gyau, who is a Diocesan Executive Member of the Fellowship, said they would seek vigorous collaboration with other organizations both within and outside the Methodist Church.
He said to ensure that targets set under the plan were accomplished they would put in place an Implementation Oversight Committee.
Mr Yaw Omanhene Gyimah, former Diocesan Chairman of the Fellowship, traced the history of the Fellowship and said it was started from the Accra Calvary Methodist in 1976 to mobilize the men to assist the Church in its programmes.
He said the idea later caught on with other societies of the church nationwide with Bantama Ebenezer being the first to establish it in the Kumasi Diocese in 1981.
Mr Omanhene Gyimah said currently Kumasi Diocese has 76 branches.
He said the Men's Fellowship had become the bedrock of the church with lots of achievements including the building of a multi-million Ghana cedi retreat centre at Kwadaso in Kumasi.
Mr Bright Osei Agyemang, the Diocesan Chairman of the Fellowship, said implementation of the strategic plan would strengthen and galvanize the members to do more to support the church.
He said he had no doubt that its success would re-position the Kumasi Diocesan Fellowship to reclaim and retain its position as the best
organized in the Methodist Church.
The first copy of the strategic plan was sold for GH¢100.
The launch formed part of activities lined up for the silver jubilee celebration of the Fellowship.
