Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Philip Aheng-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Fire Officer, has appealed for logistics support to enhance the operations of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
He said inadequate fire tenders, hose and other equipment for rescue operations during motor traffic emergencies and fire disasters had become a bother to the Service.
ACFO Aheng-Mensah was speaking at a day's exercise to sharpen the skills of personnel of the Service for competent handling of road accident emergencies in Kumasi on Thursday.
A total of 36 personnel selected from the various Fire Stations in the region participated.
This comes in the wake of increasing fatalities on the country's roads.
The Regional Fire Officer said the exercise was to also help in the selection of a team to represent Ashanti at the national "Road Traffic Collision Challenge" to be held in Accra, as well as the "World Extrication Challenge" that comes off in Ireland this year.
Ghana and South Africa are the only countries on the African Continent selected for the "World Extrication Challenge" competition.
ACFO Aheng-Mensah urged road users to be careful and respect traffic regulations to ensure safety.
He advised the participants to take the exercise seriously so as to be able to live up to expectation.
He said they would continue to build the capacity of the personnel to raise performance.
