Vienna's traditional New Year Concert, led once again by French conductor Georges Pretre, was held on Friday in the Vienna Golden Hall.
The New Year Concert of 2010 still focused on the pieces from the Strauss family.
Some additional pieces from other musicians, such as French composer Jacques Offenbach and Danish composer Hans Christian Lumbye, who was called the "Danish Strauss," were also performed during the concert.
Overture to "The Merry Wives of Windsor," the work from Austrian musician Otto Nicolai, who was the founder of the Vienna Philharmonic, was
also performed to commemorate his 200th anniversary.
Three additionally pieces of this year's New Year concert included "On the beautiful blue Danube," "Radetzky March," and "At the Hunt - Fast Polka."
The Vienna New Year's concert tradition began in 1941, and was first broadcast on live television in 1959.
This year, the concert would be broadcast to 72 countries and regions around the world, including Sri Lanka, Mozambique and Mongolia, where the live broadcast of the concert was carried out for the first time.
The concert's CDs and DVDs would be officially published on Jan. 7 and Jan. 14, respectively.
