The fourth edition of the prestigious Western Gospel Awards is set to take place on November 10, 2023, at the Word of Life Assemblies of God Church in Anaji, Takoradi.
It celebrates and rewards gospel artistes of Western Region descent who are using their musical talents to spread the gospel of God.
With 24 categories, the awards aim at highlighting the diversity and impact of gospel music in the region.
The event will see nominees battling it out for prizes in categories such as Western Gospel Artiste of the Year, Western Gospel Collaboration of the Year, and Western Female Vocalist of the Year, Western Best Gospel Artiste – Diaspora, Western Sound Engineer of the Year, and Western New Gospel Artiste of the Year.
In recognition of the growing gospel scene in the region, there will also be awards for Western Urban Gospel Artiste of the Year, Western Gospel Music Video of the Year, and Western Best Blogger of the Year.
Among the frontrunners of this year are Lordina The Soprano, leading with an impressive eight nominations, SK Frimpong and Kofi Karikari follow closely with seven nominations each, while Efua Black holds six nominations.
Speaking to Graphic Showbiz ahead of the event, lead consultant for the event, Maxwell Bills stated, “The Western Gospel Awards aspire to achieve the vision of building a massive social and spiritual movement for all people across the country and beyond.
By using music as a tool, we aim at producing personal conversions, foster communal cohesion, advocate for social justice, and inspire cultural renewal in the Western and Western North Regions, and the world."
He added that the Western Gospel Awards were not just about recognising talents but also about encouraging quality productions from gospel artistes noting, “In the long run, we aspire to foster quality works from these artistes through the awards scheme”.
