The maiden edition of Accra Street Carnival will come off in Jamestown on Friday, November 10.
An initiative of Read Ghana Read Consult, the event dubbed, “Chale, let’s read! 2023” is intended to explore the fun part of reading and revive interest in leisure reading.
“Chale, let’s read! 2023” is a novel literary/reading campaign in Accra produced in partnership with the Spanish Embassy in Accra, AECID (Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation), UNESCO Ghana and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly in line with the objectives of the 2023 UNESCO Accra World Book Capital.
Scheduled to take place at Jamestown, the event will host about 20 different activities at five venues on the street in front of the Ga Mashi Development Authority (GAMADA), GAMADA premises, the Jamestown Community Theatre, the DUNK Basketball court and the DUNK Library from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
It will feature personalities as the Deputy Minister of Education, the Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, the Mayor of Accra, the Country Representative of UNESCO Ghana and other diplomats. (Read also: GH creative industry heading for doom if we focus on just music and movie —Oswald Okaitei)
Ghanaian art and media icons including Amandzeba, David Dontoh, Linda Ampah, Abeiku Santana, Prof. Lade Wosornu and Gifty Anti will be guest readers and/or panelists.
In a conversation with Graphic Showbiz, Oswald Okaitei, a poet; literary advocate and Executive Director of Read Ghana Read Consult said well-crafted sessions such as Book Party, Reading Concert, Read & Play Video game, Blast a balloon & read along, Accra Reads in the Street with the Mayor, Spain read with Accra, Read & Bounce.
One interesting addition to this reading carnival is the Reading Concert with the Mish?? Band; which will host readings, performances and dancing by participants.
