Thanks to starring turns in Die Hard, Armageddon, Sin City, and Death Wish (to name only a few), Bruce Willis has rightfully earned his reputation as one of modern cinema’s most iconic action superstars. Yesterday, however, his daughter proved that he’s just as capable at saving lives as he is at (fictionally) taking them.
In a new video posted to Instagram Stories yesterday, Emma Heming Willis provided the world with amusing confirmation that Bruce has nothing but love for creatures of all sizes — including, in this particular instance, a hummingbird that had become trapped inside his home. Wielding a trusty pool skimmer (i.e., a net at the end of a long pole), the Hollywood legend used some expert hand-eye coordination to pluck the bird out of the rafters without causing it any harm, and then to safely deposit it back outside.
“This is our house,” he can be heard informing the innocent intruder while performing this derring-do, although it’s clear that there was no genuine hostility to be found in the actor’s heart — a fact further underlined by the clip’s finale, in which he shows that he wouldn’t even hurt a fly.
Such kindness won’t do any damage to Willis’s tough-guy persona, we’re sure. But it does have us thinking that he’d be a perfect co-star for Robert Downey Jr. in the latter’s upcoming The Voyage of Dr. Doolittle.
