The Reverend Edward Randolph-Koranteng, Head of Operations at UniBank Ghana Limited, on Monday launched its Web-based Banking Services tagged "Net-Based Banking Services" accessible through mobile phones.
He said the Net-Based banking Services run on the industry standard Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) technology, which is an open international standard for applying layer network communications in a wireless communication environment.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview Rev Randolph-Koranteng said the main use of the technology was to enable access to the mobile web from a mobile phone.
He said a WAP browser provided all of the basic services of a computer-based web browser but simplified to operate within the restrictions of a mobile phone such as its smaller view screen.
Rev Randolph-Koranteng said UniBank had teamed up with technology service providers to provide for the introduction of the new innovative product into the banking industry.
He said over the next few weeks, UniBank would launch other five major initiatives in a drive to accelerate customer service convenience to ensure that they build upon their rating as the first runner up in product innovation in the Charted Institute of Ghana, Ghana Banking Awards 2008 achievement.
The products include Uni-Alert (Notify-Me Banking), a service that notifies customers immediately salaries, deposits or credits are paid into their accounts.
It also notifies the customer anytime a withdrawal is made from the account and gives instant balances through mobile phones. Customers do not have to go to any UniBank branch to obtain such information in person.
Another product is the Uni-Mobile which involves the delivery of banking services on the customer's mobile phone. This allows customers check account balances, view last five recent transactions on accounts and buy mobile top-up units directly from their phones from any network.
UniBank will also introduce a product to transfer funds from one account to the other; Uni-Web would be an internet banking service that would allow customers to view their account statements and also pay their bills real time and e-Collect would be a fees and Cash Collection for Institutions in which UniBank provides the payments gateway.
Rev Randolph-Koranteng said as a three time winners for Best Customer Care award, UniBank had completed successful trials and new online banking products for customers.
"The e-Banking Unit of the bank has already implemented ATM and e-zwich services to its clients," he said.
Mr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, UniBank Managing Director, said the bank was well positioned to assert its quality brands in the industry with an avalanche of e-Banking products.
He said UniBank was committed to being the premier bank serving the financial needs of Ghanaians by providing individuals and businesses with excellent service and fairly priced, high quality financial products.
Mr Owusu-Amoah said UniBank was dedicated to contributing to the overall quality of life and economic health of the communities it serves, while maintaining a high level of financial soundness and integrity.
