Mrs Elizabeth Joyce Villars, Founder and Managing Director of Camelot Ghana Limited, the pioneer business forms and MICR cheque printer in Ghana, has retired from her position, the Board of Directors of the company announced on Wednesday.
Mrs Villars founded the company in November 1980 and succeeded in growing it from a local business forms printing company into a listed company on the Ghana Stock Exchange.
Camelot has developed footprints across the sub-region and beyond, serving banks, government, and top-tier financial institutions across West Africa.
The Board said in a statement that through her sound vision and exemplary leadership, Camelot had won several laurels under her leadership and featured three times under Ghana Club 100 companies.
In her capacity as an outstanding woman entrepreneur in Africa, Mrs Villars has won several recognitions in Ghana and beyond for her entrepreneurship, contribution to social development and public service.
She has addressed various international platforms, including her recent participation as a panellist at the Harvard Business School Africa Business Club Conference in 2006.
Mrs Villars also served as President of the two most prestigious business associations - the Association of Ghana Industries and Private Enterprise Foundation.
She was given a state award - Order of the Volta, Companion Division - in 2007.
Meanwhile, the Board has appointed Mr John Colin Villars, 37, as Acting Group Managing Director of Camelot, overseeing the Nigerian subsidiary - CSSL.
His appointment took effect from January 1, 2009.
The Board said under his direction, CAMELOT would focus on improving the efficiency of its processes and systems, and fully integrate its offerings to provide customers seamless end-to-end services.
Mr Villars would pursue untapped opportunities both locally and across the sub-region, the Board said, adding he was in the process of putting together a team under his "Take Off" strategy.
He founded Camelot Security Solutions Limited (CSSL), the subsidiary in Nigeria, and successfully gained its pioneer accreditation status by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to print payment instruments for that economy.
Before joining Camelot in 1997, he worked in Corporate Finance with Strategic African Securities (SAS) Limited in Ghana, having previously worked in the UK, Germany and Sweden.
