SEND Foundation of West Africa, an international NGO, has provided a cheque for GH¢ 1,700 to support Mr. Amadu Fatawu, identified as a "model youth", to expand his electrical engineering business.
SEND Foundation identified Mr. Fatawu, a 30-year-old product of the Dabokpa Vocational Institute in Tamale, as a model youth who had adopted a sustained savings culture soon after completing his vocational education, to promote his electrical engineering business.
The support, which is revolving fund, followed a baseline report by a consultant contracted by SEND Foundation under the Tamale Youth and Self Employment Programme, which sought to put premium on vocational education to encourage the youth in their chosen careers.
In furtherance of the programme, SEND Foundation implemented a youth savings club concept in partnership with vocational/technical institutions in Tamale to help the youth to tackle the myriad challenges that had militated against them in the establishment and management of their own small and medium-scale businesses.
Mr. John Nkaw, Advocacy Programme Manager of the Foundation said his outfit was committed to assisting young people who had entrepreneurial acumen to develop their businesses.
Ms Abubakari Rashida who presented the cheque to Mr. Fatawu, highlighted the benefits of savings and advised the youth, particularly vocational and technical students, to apply through SEND Foundation to benefit from the scheme.
Mr.Fatawu expressed his gratitude to SEND Foundation and promised to make judicious use of the money to be able to pay back within the stipulated time for others to benefit.
