Air Transat, the renowned Canadian airline, has confirmed a groundbreaking new non-stop service connecting Toronto (YYZ) and Accra (ACC) starting in the Summer of 2026.
This monumental development is not just about a new flight route; it’s a direct gateway opening up Canada for Ghanaian citizens, and critically, a simplified path for the immense Ghanaian diaspora in Ontario to return home.
The new route will operate twice weekly—on Wednesdays and Sundays—from June 17 to October 22, 2026.
This timing couldn’t be more perfect. With the FIFA World Cup 2026 co-hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico looming large, this direct service is a game-changer. For Ghanaian football fans in West Africa, the long, tedious, and often costly necessity of connecting through Europe to reach Canada will be eliminated.
“We are honoured to be the first and only airline to offer a direct connection between Canada and Ghana,” said Sebastian Ponce, Chief Revenue Officer at Transat. His words ring true, especially for the thousands of Ghanaians planning to travel for the tournament.
