Alhaji Seidu Haruna, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wenchi Constituency in the Bono Region, has launched a project to provide employable skills training to indigenous and vulnerable young women in the area.
The implementation of the project focuses on training the vulnerable women in soap making, pastries and baking, liquid soap production and other detergents.
Speaking at a short ceremony held at Subinso Number Two in the Municipality, the MP said the implementation of the “Women Empowerment Project” would provide opportunity for indigenous women to learn crafts of their choice and fetch decent jobs for themselves.
However, Alhaji Haruna said the beneficiaries would be guided and inspired to learn employable skills that had high market demands, saying, the project sought to empower the women economically to contribute meaningfully to local economic growth and development.
He cautioned the youth in the area against the temptation to engage in illegal mining, warning that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly. Nana Akosua Benewaa II, the Gyaasehemaa (sub-queen) of Subinso Number Two, lauded the project and commended the MP for the opportunity.
She expressed regret that despite its contributions to the socio-economic development of the Municipality, the town lagged in development, and called on the government to provide them with a Technical, Vocational and Education Training institute. Nana Benewaa II said the town required a police station, toilet facilities, improved water system, and called for the government intervention for the completion of a polyclinic project in the area.
