In a strategic move that signals a major commitment to West Africa’s burgeoning mining sector, global engineering leader Sandvik has announced the establishment of a new operational facility in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The launch of the new office, scheduled for November this year, marks a significant expansion of Sandvik’s footprint in the region and is poised to create a hub for cutting-edge mining technology and localised mining support.
Mr Nuhu Salifu, Vice-President and Managing Director of Sandvik Sales Area West Africa, emphasised that the expansion is a testament to the company’s long-term belief in the region.
“This new chapter in Côte d’Ivoire demonstrates our commitment to partnering with West Africa’s growth,” Mr Salifu stated. “By establishing a local presence, we are not just serving the market; we are investing in it. We are building a team that understands the local context and is dedicated to fostering the success of our Ivorian partners,” he added in a statement copied The Ghanaian Times.
Building on its established presence in Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Mali, Sandvik’s new facility will place the company directly within the Ivorian economic zone.
This strategic location is designed to offer mining companies in Côte d’Ivoire unparalleled, on-the-ground support, ensuring faster response times, consistent parts supply, and expert service for its range of advanced Mining and Rock Solutions equipment.
The decision to invest in Côte d’Ivoire is a powerful statement of confidence in the country’s economic future and its thriving mining industry.
A core part of Sandvik’s strategy is its investment in local talent. The company has already begun recruiting and training a dedicated Ivorian team, which will bring invaluable regional expertise to its operations.
Among them is Elidje André, who was recruited earlier this year to join the new branch. “From the outset, it’s clear that Sandvik prioritises the health and welfare of its staff,” Andre said. “This people-first approach is fundamental to how they operate, and it creates a strong foundation for serving customers.”
