Tokyo and Kyoto Stands Out in Japan as Other Japanese Startup Ecosystems Decline
In the Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2024, the number of Japanese cities in the global top 1,000 remains at 11 for the third consecutive year. However, a majority of the top ranked Japanese ecosystems experience a global decline.
???? Tokyo (1st) is the leading startup city in Japan and the only one in the global top 100, with a startup ecosystem 10 times larger than second-place Osaka.
???? Kyoto (3rd) is the only top-ranked city showing global improvement for the second year in a row; however, it has yet to catch up with Osaka.
????Nagoya (5th) experienced the steepest global decline among Japan's top 5, falling further away from the global top 300, where it remained until 2022.
