The Breman Jamara Community in the Asikuma Adoben Brakwa District in the Central Region has been gifted a 50,000-litre storage water system to improve access to potable water.
The facility will help improve on the health and wellbeing of the people in the community and help in the realization of United Nations’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 which promotes access to clean water and sanitation.
It was provided by Activa Foundation, a special purpose vehicle set up by Activa International Insurance, to initiate, undertake and coordinate the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) .
Activa International Insurance Ghana is one of the seven subsidiaries under the Activa Group. The company is a General Insurance company that provides risk protection for private, individuals, SMEs and big corporate institutions.
The water project was jointly commissioned by the Managing Director of Activa International Insurance Ghana, Benjamin Yamoah, and the Gyaasehene of Breman Jamara, Nana Kwesi Ennin III, last Thursday, at a ceremony at Breman Jamara.
Speaking at the commissioning, Mr Yamoah said, the facility will also serve neighbouring communities as it comes with two 25,000 litre tanks.
“It means at every point in time, the community has access to 50,000 litres of good and hygienic drinking water,” he stated.
Mr Yamoah explained that water was life so the company was excited that through the Activa Foundation, it was able to give back to society by providing good drinking water to the people of Breman Jamara, thereby eliminating water borne diseases that came with drinking unwholesome water.
The Gyaasehene of Breman Jamara, Nana Kwesi Ennin III, commended Activa for the relief it had brought to the community.
He said, residents in the community had been struggling to get potable water for a long time and thus relied on other unhygienic sources to meet that essential need , a situation that often brought about various water-borne diseases.
He therefore, on behalf of the chief and people of Breman Jamara, expressed appreciation to Activa Foundation for bringing life to the community.
“We are very grateful to Activa International Insurance Ghana for coming to our aid to solve this water problem”, he said.
