Mr. Kwame Agyeman Kankam, the Officer-in-Charge of Commercials at the Ghana Post Company Limited in the Ashanti Region, has urged citizens to patronize the services of the company.
This, he said would help sustain and position the Ghana Post Company well in the 21st century and the current technological highway, to help promote economic development.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency on the relevance of the company in the face of globalization, Mr. Kankam said it was important for the company to fit well into the global trends of information transfer and delivery, by taking advantage of the availability of social media and other communication tools to deliver its services.
Social media handles such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and others have been created by the company to reach out to clients.
Again, Mr. Kankam said the company was making use of the Internet Tracking System to track parcels and items being transported to their various destinations.
This, he indicated, made it easier to trace and retrieve lost items or compensate clients who could not receive their items.
Mr. Kankam added that, due to the adoption of the tracking system, the company recorded little or no lost items.
He said though social media had positively improved the services rendered by the company, it had also had its negative sides and the posting of hard copies of letters had reduced drastically, causing the post company to leverage more on parcel deliveries and other services.
"We receive hard copies of letters, land documents, school transcripts, pictures and other official documents to be posted to recipients.
Formally, in a month over 10,000 letters could be posted, however, lately, we post not less than 2,000 letters in a month," he noted.
Apart from parcels and letter deliveries, Mr Kankam said some of the services included the Expedite Mail System (EMS), Financial Services, Wholesale Post Shop, School services, including the sales of tertiary school admission forms and others.
He said parcels posted through the normal posting system of the company to areas outside the country took eight working days to arrive.
Those posted through the EMS took five working days to arrive outside the country and parcels to be delivered across regions and within regions took 24 hours and 12 hours to arrive respectively.
Mr. Kankam encouraged citizens who intended to have postal boxes to visit any nearby Ghana Post office with an annual fee of Ghç350 for a personal box and Ghc500 for a commercial box.
