Wilmar Africa Limited, a manufacturer of household consumer products, has donated GH¢125,000 to the National Cardiothoracic Centre to mark this year's World Heart Day.
The donation, part of the company's Frytol Healthy Heart campaign, was to support the Centre's operations in saving lives affected by heart diseases.
The campaign focuses on educating consumers about preventing cardiovascular diseases through nutritious meals, exercise, and healthy lifestyle choices.
Mrs Ewuraba Ekua Adusei, Head of Marketing, and Mr Solomon Ohene-Owusu, Head of Corporate Affairs at Wilmar Africa, presented the donation.
Dr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, Director of the National Cardiothoracic Centre, accepted the contribution on behalf of the Centre.
Mrs Adusei said the gesture formed part of the company's corporate social responsibility in health and nutrition.
"As a major industry player, Wilmar Africa Ltd recognises that not only must it ensure that its products and processes are of high quality that meet the demanding standards of customers, but they must also be produced in a manner which is sustainable and takes into account environmental and social interests.
"Wilmar Africa also recognises that Corporate Social Responsibility goes well beyond this, hence as a leading economic force in areas of our operations, Wilmar embraces its responsibility, not just as a good corporate citizen, but to foster an economically viable community and empower people," she said.
This year's Frytol Healthy Heart campaign began in September on digital platforms, promoting healthy lifestyles through challenges like walking, jogging, and skipping, led by brand ambassador Naa Ashorkor.
Wilmar Africa also organised a health walk and fun day for its partners and staff to encourage collective fitness, and recognised participants of the campaign-both online and at physical fitness centres-by awarding them various prizes.
Dr Entsua-Mensah, Director of the National Cardio Centre, expressed gratitude to Wilmar Africa for the gesture this year and for the support in previous years.
He encouraged Ghanaians to adopt healthy lifestyles and prioritise good nutrition to help reduce the prevalence of heart diseases.
