MTN Mobile Money Limited has launched its Cashless Market initiative, a collaborative effort with ecosystem players, including banks, fintech companies, small to medium enterprises (SMEs), and the Bank of Ghana. This project aims to promote a cashless economy, where transactions are conducted digitally.
Speaking at the launch, Sylvia Otuo-Acheampong, Chief Product and Services Officer, at Mobile Money Limited emphasized the significance of financial inclusion using mobile money services. "We're celebrating MTN Mobile Money's 15th anniversary, and this initiative is part of our efforts to drive financial inclusion and promote a cashless society," she noted.
She said that MTN Mobile Money was committed to expanding financial inclusion through mobile loans, insurance services with partners such as MiLife Insurance, investment opportunities through treasure bills, daily or monthly savings and cross-border remittances.
“By promoting digital transactions, MTN Mobile Money seeks to increase financial access and convenience for Ghanaians” she added.
The MTN cashless market aims to foster collaboration with ecosystem players to demonstrate the benefits of a cashless economy, expand access to financial services, including loans, insurance, investments and promote ongoing efforts to educate customers on security and fraud prevention while promoting the use of the My Momo App which offers experiences such as convenient transactions, statement viewing, and subscription services.
Ms. Otuo-Acheampong disclosed that MML would soon launch ‘Refer-a-Friend’, a promotion offering free data rewards for referrals.
She also stressed the importance of vigilance against fraud, urging customers to be cautious when sharing personal information. "Education is key. We're working with security agencies to clamp down on fraudsters,” she empathized.
The MTN Momo Cashless Market is part of the company’s 15th-anniversary celebrations, which features series of promotions, giveaways and random cash prizes for customers. The five-day event would feature businesses from Accra at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Park along with sponsors such as MiLife insurance, Access Bank, GCB Bank, Chango, Republic Bank, IT Consortium, Hubtel from the 3rd to the 6th of October, 2024.
