MTN Mobile Money Limited (MML), an MTN Ghana subsidiary, has awarded its agents and merchants for their dedicated services at the 2023 National Mobile Money (MoMo) Awards Night.
CEO of MML, Shaibu Haruna, commended the agents and winners for their commitment and resilience despite the challenges faced by the industry this year. He said that despite MML's remarkable feats in the last 24 years, there were some significant challenges and bottlenecks that continue to hinder the company’s pursuit of advancing financial inclusion. These, he said, were addressed at the 2023 MoMo Season by deliberating on the key barriers to enabling digital payments in Ghana.
“Digital and financial literacy, interoperability constraints, platform stability, fraud, and the cost of financial transactions were identified as the key challenges that continue to impede our efforts. MobileMoney Limited remains committed to working with all stakeholders in the industry to address these challenges,” Mr Haruna noted.
He added that the fight against MoMo fraud was a shared responsibility and urged all stakeholders and customers to join the fight. He disclosed that MML had trained 180 staff of the Economic and Organized Crime Organization (EOCO) across the country to investigate and prosecute digital finance-related crimes.
The overall Regional Best Agent Award went to the CEO of My Kids Pride Links, Ms. Dorcas Abena Gyaba from the Greater Accra Region, who went home with E-cash of GHC50,000 and a plaque, while the overall Regional Best Merchant Award went to J. Obeng Ventures from the Ashanti Region, who also went home with E-cash of GHC50,000 and a plaque.
Speaking to the media after the interview, Ms. Gyaba Regional Best Agent expressed her appreciation to MML for the recognition and promised to maintain her hard work. She also urged all agents and merchants to work hard and promote MTN Mobile Money.
The awardees were drawn from all 16 regions, with 44 of them being selected from six categories: best agents for all regions, best mobile agents in 3 sales regions, stakeholder/partner awards, overall best agent, and overall best merchant. Each winner went home with an e-cash of GHC10,000 and a plaque.
Some partner institutions awarded were Cellulant Ghana Limited for MoMo Fintech Financial Inclusion Champion, IT Consortium MoMo for Fintech Partner Innovator, Pay Switch Company Limited for MOMO Fintech Partner of the Year, ECG Powered by Hubtel for E-Government Digital Transformation Excellence Award, KOA Impact Ghana for Open API Merchant, and Afrifaman Limited (Tekhype) for Open API Fintech of the Year.
Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs, Mr. Paapa Osei said that the awards night was to celebrate and recognize MML's valued partners and stakeholders in the Fintech Ecosystem across the length and breadth of the country for their invaluable contributions to the business and the industry at large.
He commended the awardees for their hard work despite a challenging year, saying, “We are indeed proud of the strides we have been able to accomplish together. This is to everyone who played a part in our journey. Ayekoo!!!”
