The Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ), has launched the eighth edition of its annual awards for business and financial journalists in Ghana.
Dubbed the IFEJ Flamingo Awards, the 2022 edition is on the theme: ‘“ICT In Ghana’s Financial Accessibility and Development’.
Journalists, particularly financial and economic reporters who write comprehensive and accurate business news, are encouraged to enter the awards.
Stories written from September 1, 2021 – August 31, 2022 are all qualified for the awards and the ultimate winner must pick up the Best Information and Communication Technology (ICT) feature/news story which should show the extent to which ICT can be utilised to enhance business development and economic growth.
A media release issued in Accra by IFEJ said submission of articles for the awards began from September 6 to September 30, 2022.
It said interested journalists can submit their entries by downloading the form(s) from IFEJ website or at the FEJ office.
“The juries of the awards committee usually focus on key areas such as originality, accuracy, quality, and excellent communication,” it said.
Categories
The awards slated for January 2023 will award journalists in the nine categories, namely; best in finance, best in agribusiness, best in development, best in business/manufacturing and best in tourism.
The rest are best in business of health, best in natural resources, best in ICT and best in local economy.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, Dr Kenneth Ashigbey, commended the executives of IFEJ in shaping the course of business news reporting in the country.
Touching on the theme of the awards, he said: “The transformative role of ICT and Technology in general as demonstrated by the impact of mobile, cannot therefore be discounted”.
“It is up to all of us to leverage the opportunities presented and in the case of journalists to educate and inform us the general public, the business owners, the consumers and the employees of role that ICT and Technology is playing to transform our lives”.
