The Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare has urged the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), to strengthen the existing mechanisms to make regulated utility companies financially viable considering the impact of Covid-19 on the global economy.
Speaking during the inauguration of the office Complex and the Launch of the 25th Anniversary Celebration of PURC in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, Mrs. Frema Osei-Opare noted that the Commission has been playing a pivotal role since its establishment in 1997 in balancing the expectation of its stakeholders.
She charged the PURC to use the launch of the 25th Anniversary to reflect on their activities and encouraged the regional staff to be motivated in discharging their duties due to the office.
The Executive Secretary of PURC, Dr. Ishmael Ackah, mentioned that the mandate of the PURC is to balance the interest of utilities and consumers. He noted that as part of efforts to discharge their duties effectively, they are investing in systems, infrastructure and capacity building to ensure that utilities are efficient and abundant for customers.
He encouraged Ghanaians to make use of the office by reporting their challenges.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong noted that it is the priority of the government to make sure State institutions are adequately resourced in order to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently.
