Mr Samuel Nii Adjei Tawiah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for KorleKlottey, has called on Ghanaians to work together towards sustainable economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr Tawiah urged the citizenry to embrace new and innovative policies being implemented by the government to improve the lives of the people.
The MCE said this on Sunday at this year’s 65th Independence Day anniversary held at the forecourt of Accra Senior High School under the theme “Working Together – Bouncing Back Better.”
The event, organised by the Assembly, brought together 10 basic and secondary schools within the municipality, which took part in a colourful parade.
The MCE said throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the government in partnership with the private sector rolled out economic reliefs and recovery programmes to mitigate the effects of the pandemic on the country’s business space.
These include Coronavirus Alleviation Programme, Business Support Scheme, and YouStartprogramme to support Small and Medium Scale Enterprises affected by the pandemic.
Mr Tawiah said all efforts should be made to concentrate on things that would unite the country than those that divided it.
“The development of the country is a collective responsibility of every citizen. It is important for the public and private sector agencies as well as the formal and informal sectors to work together and make the economy better,” he said.
On education, he said the government had put in place policies including Free SHS, expansion of School Feeding Programme, and the introduction of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to improve learning outcomes.
That, the MCE explained was crucial because education was identified as the strong pillar on which the development of any nation thrived.
DrZanetorAgyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament, KorleKlottey Constituency, urged Ghanaians to get involved in nation-building programmes to advance the country’s socio-economic development. “Let the national anthem resonate with us to lead the country forward”.
Let our thoughts and actions focus on the development of the country and not personal interest for sustained growth,” she said.
Mrs Joyce Osae-Apenteng, the Municipal Education Director, Ghana Education Service, appealed to the authorities to renovate the schools within the municipality to aid effective teaching and learning outcomes.
She urged the students to take their studies seriously to brighten their career path and called on all to work together to uplift the image of the country.
Naa Korkor Aadzieoyi I, the Queen Mother of Adabraka, advised Ghanaians to use the occasion to foster unity to advance the country’s socio-economic development.
