Organisers of the Ghana Youth Camp, in their bid to keep up with one of their core mandates to promote entrepreneurship and innovation among the youth in Ghana, have introduced a business pitch competition.
The Business Pitch Competition is one of the programs designed for the second edition of the Ghana Youth Camp, where selected young entrepreneurs pitch for a startup incubator package.
The goal of the project was to promote impact-driven entrepreneurs who are using innovative and sustainable solutions to solve some of Ghana’s most pressing problems, thereby creating jobs and contributing to the nation’s development.
Bs Building Blocks was named the winner of the competition after undergoing screening, being shortlisted by an independent jury of business leaders, passing through the voting stage, and “rally going head-to-head with nine other competitors in an Elevator Pitch bout.
The company secured its win on the “final day of the 2021 Ghana YouthCamp after its Founder, Frank Ankor, pitched to a three-member jury revealing the core purpose of the company, its target market, its financial projections among others.
Frank Ankor disclosed that Bs Building Blocks is a company that gathers plastic wastes from the environment and use them as raw materials or binding agent in addition to sand and other components in making sustainable pavement blocks and tiles.
He made emphasis on the sustainability of the project and how they seek to solve one of the pressing issues in the world which is improper disposal of plastic wastes and underutilization of plastic wastes.
The company is geared towards promoting Sustainable Development Goal 6, “Clean water and sanitation for all”; Goal 9,“industry, innovation and infrastructure” and Goal 11, “sustainable cities and communities”.
Women’s Haven Africa, an implementing partner of the program presented Bs Building
Blocks with the winning prize package which included sponsorship of workingo5ce space, product development assistance, mentorship, marketing opportunities, access to investors and prospective investor funding.
The founder of Bs Building Blocks, Frank Ankor, expressed his delight to be named the winner of the competition. He said that through the singular achievement, he had realised his hard work towards entrepreneurship hasbeen recognized.
“It means a lot to me and my team in such a way that with hard work and determination, we can achieve greater heights. As winners,we would be groomed very well in business because of the incubational packages and also the o5ce space will serve as a meeting room and a place we would be working from. These o8ers would bene”t my team a lot. ”, he added.
The Ghana Youth Camp which came o8 on 26th- 30th December, 2021 at the Knust Campus hosted emerging leaders for various youth development activities.
