Peoples' Friendship: what Moscow products are in demand in Africa

Moscow's non-resource non-energy exports (NRE) to African countries increased by 51.7% compared to the same period last year and reached 1.34 billion USD. The continent is one of the promising areas for export cooperation. This information was announced by Vladimir Efimov, Deputy Mayor of the City of Moscow for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations.

“Today Moscow ranks first among the regions of Russia in terms of the volume of supplies of non-resource non-energy products to the African continent, and interest in Moscow goods is constantly growing. Following the results of eight months of this year, exports to African countries have grown by more than half compared to last year and reached 1.34 billion USD. Our enterprises mainly exported industrial products: radionavigation equipment, optical-free measuring and monitoring devices and filtering equipment. For the capital, the African export market has high potential and is comparable to Asia in terms of prospects,” noted the Deputy Mayor.

Algeria, Egypt, Uganda, Nigeria and Tunisia are the top five main importing countries of the metropolitan manufacturers’ products in Africa. The Center for Exports Support and Development "Mosprom" noted that there is a positive trend for all categories of goods that are purchased from Moscow compared to last year.

“If we talk about agro-industrial complex products, which account for about 10% of exports, then promising products for increasing Moscow exports to Africa are dairy products, vegetables, poultry meat, chocolate products and animal feed. For example, in 2021, Moscow resumed deliveries of meat and poultry by-products to Benin and began exporting ice cream to Nigeria,” said Alexander Prokhorov, Head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy Government of Moscow.

"Mosprom" experts help metropolitan manufactures to enter the African market. Thus, from 15 to 21 November 2021, the center will organize a collective stand of Moscow companies at the international multisectoral exhibition INTRA AFRICAN TRADE FAIR-2021 in Durban, South Africa. Seven Moscow companies will take part in the event, including both industrial exporters and food manufacturers. Furthermore, this year, the center's experts, in addition to participating in the exhibition in South Africa, organized a Moscow-Africa teleconference and a business mission to Nigeria for industrial manufacturers.
