MTN Ghana has set itself a vision to lead the delivery of a bold, new digital world and a mission to make her customers’ lives a whole lot brighter. To this end, it is on track to become a digital operator by the end of 2023.
Among initiatives that have been taken to arrive at this goal, are processes that have been designed from the customers’ point of view as well as several other initiatives that have been launched to eliminate pain points such as the flexi bundles, which allow customers to buy any amount of data that they want and these bundles no longer expire.
Mr Selorm Adadevoh, CEO of MTN Ghana, disclosed these recently during a virtual Editors’ Forum. He said that to enable customers to always receive uninterrupted support and put them in control, support channels have been enhanced and a hundred access centres have been set up to work 24/7 for the benefit of customers.
Mr Adadevoh noted that 2020 has been a challenging year. He said that apart from the COVID-19 pandemic, MTN also had its own problems such as a 3 day outage on her undersea cable.
Nevertheless, MTN Ghana, Mr Adadevoh indicated, has kept its head above water and reached out to help others weather the storm in this pandemic. He said that the company had, so far, committed over GhS100m to complement Government’s efforts in fighting the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.
Mr Adadevoh noted that Government of Ghana (GoG) workers have had free access to the Smart Workplace portal which is available to all GoG workers. He said that the Company had donated GhS5m worth of PPEs to be used by frontline health workers. He added that 10 TurboNet devices with over 2 Terabytes of data, had also been donated to the Ministry of Information. In addition, the Ministry and the Ghana Health Service had been given free access to shortcodes for use in their Covid-19 response.
Mr Adadevoh said that a digital equipment worth GhS 42,000 had been donated to the Noguchi Memorial Institute and various hospitals and clinics nationwide, had also benefited from a distribution of GhS85,000 worth of masks.
On the educational front, he said that over 200 educational websites could be accessed freely by students.
Mr Adadevoh stated that as a way of helping customers in this COVID-19 era, person to person transfers of money via MoMo of up to GhS 100.00 daily, attracted no charges while the limit on transactions was extended. He said that the MoMo service continued to focus on building a comprehensive portfolio for all financial inclusion needs. The CEO explained that the role of MoMo in a digital economy cannot be over-empasized as it is the glue that makes digital come to life.
Mr Adadevoh indicated that through the MTN Foundation, the Company had invested US$15m in 150 projects in the Educational, Healthcare and Economic Empowerment sectors. Projects undertaken included the putting up of Libraries, Dormitories, Classrooms, ICT labs, maternity blocks, surgeries, giving out of scholarships to needs-based students and a whole lot more.
MTN Ghana, he said, is also helping to empower the youth by training a hundred of them including persons with disability, in mobile phone repairs. The trainees, will, at the end of their training, be provided with kiosks and start-up kits to ply their trade.
