A statement signed by Mr Tino Fritsch, the Head of Communications at the thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions and copied the Ghana News Agency, said the Company had agreed terms with Egyptian chemical and fertiliser manufacturer, El Nasr Company for Intermediate Chemicals (NCIC), for the construction of the facility.

The statement said the plant is expected to be built in Ain El Sokhna, around 100 kilometres southeast of Cairo, close to the existing NCIC phosphatic and compound fertilizer complex.

The statement said the complex when completed would produce up to 440,000 tons of ammonia, 380,000 tons of urea and 300,000 tons of calcium ammonium nitrate every year for the African market.

This, the statement said, formed part of NCIC's plans to expand its current product portfolio to include high-quality nitrogen fertilizer for local and export markets.

It said the company was undertaking the project in a consortium with the Egyptian company PETROJET and was valued in some millions of euros and was expected to commence operations in 2022.

Quoting Mr Marcel Fasswald, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, the statement said: "We have a particularly successful partnership with Egypt stretching back more than 160 years which offers great potential for the future."

Mr Ralf Richman, CEO of Fertiliser and Syngas Technologies, expressed his delight about the project, the statement said.

"To date we have planned and built 16 of the 17 existing nitrogen fertilizer plants in the country and are delighted that another state-of-the-art plant will now be added."

The statement said the company's longstanding experience in plant construction as well as its strong local presence and close collaboration with customers formed the basis for its success and strong market position in the region.

It further said the company had more than 200 years of experience in the supply of tailored, turnkey plants and components for customers in the chemical, fertilizer, cement, mining and steel industries in many countries including Ghana.
