Accra Brewery Limited (ABL) has won the Excellence in Procurement and Supply Chain of the Year Award in the beverage manufacturing sector at the 2018 Ghana Procurement and Supply Chain Awards in Accra.
A statement signed by Ms Jocelyn Ahiable, the ABL Communications Manager, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday, said Mr Philip Redman, the ABL Country Director, received the award on behalf of the company.
It said the Award had made the company proud as a subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABInBev), the world’s largest brewer.“We have always championed transparency and fairness in our procurement process and this Award will urge us on as we continue to realise our dream of bringing people together for a better world,” the statement said.
It quoted Ms Bernice Gyimah, the ABL’s Local Category Manager (Procurement), as saying; “As part of ABInBev’s Procurement function, all our suppliers adhere to the strict compliance standards set in the business in order to further strengthen our business reputation and integrity”.
It said ABL's Procurement function played a critical role in achieving the company’s ‘Business 2025 Sustainability Goals’ by training the suppliers to adhere to Supplier Code Conduct.
The statement said the ABL did this by operating a transparent pricing structure with suppliers and conducting a financial and governance audit with all raw materials among other things.
It said the ABL was working towards attaining its 2025 Sustainability Goals, which were focused on Smart Agriculture, Circular Packaging, Water Stewardship, and Climate Action. “With these goals, ABL will financially empower the farmers from which the company sources its local raw materials such as maize and cassava; use more recyclable packaging; improve the availability of water in high stress areas; reduce their carbon emissions and increase renewable energy use all by 100 per cent,” the statement said.
