A multi-sector international exhibition was launched in Accra on Wednesday to bring together various players across the world interested in the African market and to learn about business opportunities in Ghana.
The exhibition, which would span from September 6 to 8, at the Ghana International Trade Fair, La, is expected to bring together industry players from more than 15 countries with companies, in the areas of energy, construction, mining, roads, and automobile.
The exhibition, which is supported by the High Commission of India in Ghana and the Federation of Indian Export Organisation and being partnered by Turkey, and under the organisation of FairAct, VeriFair and Exhibition Masters.
Mr Prince Hari Crystal, the Managing Director of Exhibition Masters, said many of the companies, participating in this year’s exhibition are looking forward to strike new partnerships and agreements, set up production plants or get new franchises in Ghana.
He commended the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Works and Housing, Ministry of Roads and Highways, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, and the Ministry of Information for throwing their weight behind the international exhibition.
He noted that some of the exhibitors in last year’s edition were already doing business with some Ghanaian companies, which would auger well for the country. Speaking at the launch, Mr Samuel Atta Akyea, the Minister of Works and Housing, said the Ministry had some priority infrastructure projects, which was looking for Private Partnerships to accomplish.
He said the priority areas of the Ministry were affordable housing projects, construction of a world class sewerage system and drainage systems to solve the perennial floods as well as the redevelopment of government properties in areas such as Nima and Maamobi.
Mr Atta Akyea said the other areas were sea defence projects, estimated to be 550 kilometres along the coastline, the building and relocation of Government City at Prampram, in the Greater Accra Region, the construction of modern court structures and accommodation throughout the country for the judiciary and the security services.
Mr Birender Singh Yadav, the High Commissioner of India to Ghana, said his country was excited to partner Ghana in the areas of the exhibition, adding that, 65 Companies from India would be participating in the exhibition.
Mr Carlos Ahenkora, a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, said the Ministry saw the exhibitions as timely as the government had prioritised the creation of jobs for the teaming unemployed youth.
