Dr Mohammed Jamal, a Lecturer at the Koforidua Technical University has said the implementation of the National Digital Addressing System effectively would help improve business transactions in the country.
He said customers of business firms in the country can comfortably sit in their homes and buy things on all e-commerce platforms and have it directly delivered to them.
Dr Jamal was speaking at the Association of Industries (AGI), Eastern and Volta Region branch breakfast discussion, which was organised on the theme, ‘’2018 budget and opportunities for businesses in the Eastern Region’’.
He advised members of AGI to capitalise on the 2018 budget, which aims at stabilising the macroeconomic fundamentals and growing the economy, by investing in industrialisation, infrastructure, agriculture and entrepreneurship to create jobs.
He said the proposed review of electricity tariff in the 2018 budget was laudable as it would reduce cost of production and cost of doing business in the country.Dr Jamal said the launch of the National Development Bank, with its capacity to mobilise private capital towards agricultural and industrial transformation was very impressive, since it is geared towards making the financial sector more efficient and can provide more long term financial support to businesses.
He called on government to make alternative arrangement to mitigate any shocks that may confront its proposed projects in the 2018 budget.Mr Eric Kwakye Daffour, Eastern Regional Minister, in his address said the 2018 budget was geared towards boosting businesses in the country.
He said the budget would set the platform for transforming the economy that would be anchored on five key priority pillars of, agriculture, infrastructure, industrialisation, job creation and entrepreneurship and innovation.
This, he said government would place special emphasis on propagating on entrepreneurial culture through the National Entrepreneurship Innovation Programme (NEIP) especially among young Ghanaians under 35 years.
Mr Darfour said the abolition of taxes by government in the 2018 budget on import special levy ,exercise duty on petroleum , imposed on imported raw materials and machinery and other taxes were meant to free the local entrepreneurs from excessive payment of taxes and it would go a long way to provide additional funding that would be ploughed back to expand the business to absorb unemployed youth.
He said the Eastern and Volta branch of the Association would institute a regional business barometer bi-annually, beginning from next year.
