The week-long event, which ends on Saturday, also features exhibition of agro inputs, implements and services, as well as business-to-business meetings, institutional seminars, business plan training camp for agribusinesses, leadership seminar for women in agriculture, farmer stakeholder engagements and mentorship programme.

The event, organized by the FAGRO Secretariat, is on the theme: “Creating Jobs in Agriculture: Northern Region in Focus.” Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister for Food and Agriculture, whose speech was read on his behalf, said agriculture is a viable venture, which should not be left in the hands of the aged and less-educated alone calling on all to venture into the sector for job creation and food security.

He said said the government was making the needed effort to open up the agricultural sector and make it more attractive for the youth and the educated for them to see it as a lucrative venture worth their expertise, investment, time and involvement. Mr Salifu Saeed, Northern Regional Minister, said the region had enormous potentials in agriculture and tourism encouraging all to explore such potentials for the benefit of all.

Madam Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, General Manager of FAGRO Secretariat, said there are enormous opportunities in the country’s agricultural sector, which are yet to be fully harnessed. Madam Nana Akyaa Akosa urged all not to consider agriculture as a preserve for the illiterate but to embrace agriculture as business by using technology to ensure increased production.
