This follows reforms by the Authority being pursued since the appointment of the Acting Director a few months ago.

The GPHA has been dogged with problems and challenges over the years, and a closer look evokes several limitations, as there are separate segmented compartments within the vastness of the Ports.

However, within the few months in office as the Acting Director, Mr Ansah is leading the Authority to embark on a clampdown of some individuals, corporations and private entities embarking on the construction of smaller unauthorised port facilities along some coastal towns in the country.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Ansah explained that his operational areas in the ports community, within the two harbours, involved interactions with ship owners and their representatives.

It also includes interactions with shipping lines, stevedoring companies, shipping and clearing agents, freight forwarders, importers and exporters, and haulage companies.Mr Ansah said the Authority’s business responsibilities were to collect revenue and organise port infrastructure to create room that would conform to the tastes of its tenants and visitors.

Within the few months in office, Mr Ansah said the GPHA had been visited by Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia and the Senior Minister, Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo, on fact finding missions and how to improve operations there.

He said the reforms would inure to the benefits of all stakeholders and remove both perceived and real challenges in the operational areas of the Authority.

Dwelling on his 23 years working experience with the Authority, where he rose through the ranks until his appointment as the Acting Director General, Mr Ansah said he was confident to use the experience acquired to overcome the operational challenges.

The GPHA is responsible for the governance, maintenance and operations of the ports of Ghana, principally the Port of Sekondi-Takoradi, and Port of Tema, and the Fishing Harbour at Tema.
