Polished cotton, lace and Woodin brands are enjoying massive patronage over fabrics in the textile market. A survey conducted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday revealed that sellers of the products were enjoying massive patronage making the business attractive over other ventures.
Mrs Matilda Osei, a seamstress at Awoshie said, her clients preferred polished cotton and lace, which were less costly and very nice when sewn.
“I find it easier when cutting the patterns in the polish materials especially it expands to give the various styles the client wants,” Madam Vero Mensah said. Nevertheless, Mrs Cecilia Oduro, a textiles shop owner at Awoshie Market, said during the festive season individuals came to her shop to purchase various colours of polished cotton, and different designs of lace.
A yard of polished cotton goes for GH?15 and a yard for a lace GH?20, especially the lace could be expensive due to its different patterns and designs, Mrs Oduro said.According to Madam Esther Appiah, most of her clients used polished cotton fabrics to sew official wear compared to the other fabrics. It made the style simple and nice to wear, she added.
Miss Esther Aseidu, a student of Accra Technical University, said she preferred polished cotton because she uses it to sew casual wears to lectures on Friday.“I look smart for school in that cotton whiles the lace I sew to occasions such as weddings, naming ceremonies, etc.”
“I combine others materials such as wax print and kente to design the polished cotton tops to give a unique look for church and parties. “This makes it unique and hardly would people see others wearing the same combination or designs at that gathering, the fabric is affordable and I will get some of the material,” Ronald Kumson stated.
