A statement issued in Beijing yesterday and signed by Mr. Sun Bai, chairman of the Chinese company, said the contract value amounts to US$230 million.

“According to the contract, the scope of the project includes the construction of a power plant with an installed capacity of 180MW and ancillary facilities in Beyin, Ghana,” said the statement.

CMEC said it would be responsible for the design, supply, civil engineering and construction, installation, training, commissioning, technical services and other works of the project on a turnkey basis.

Turnkey is a product or service that is designed, supplied, built, or installed fully complete and ready to operate. The term implies that the end user just has to turn a key and start using the product or service.

“As stipulated in the contract, the project will commence for construction upon the satisfaction of certain conditions precedent,” said the Chinese contractor.

The construction period of the project, according to the company, will last for approximately 32 months upon commencement of the construction.

Wuta Energy is a wholly owned Ghanaian company duly registered and incorporated under the Companies’ code and registered with the Energy Commission as an independent power producer.

In accordance with the regulatory regime of the Republic of Ghana, Wuta Energy Limited has been granted a wholesale electricity supply license by the Energy Commission.

Wuta Energy has also received a gas sales agreement from the Ghana National Gas Company Limited for the supply of gas to its power plant project to be sited three kilometres from the Ghana Gas Plant in the Jomoro District of the Western Region of Ghana.
