The Managing Director of Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL), Togbe Adza Nyi IV of Ziavi, known in private life as Mr.Patrick Akoli, has been honoured for the feat he has chalked as the best Marketing Personnel of the year, 2015 by the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana.
His achievements did not only project Goil as a shining star in the retail oil marketing sector, but also showed his commitment and fortitude towards his stewardship.
These were said by Project Volta (PV), a non profit making organisation, at a brief ceremony held at the Goil Executive Centre, Cantonments, to confer on him the honour.
t said that Togbe had demonstrated that no amount of obstacles could prevent people from attaining their goal if they exhibit resilience and single-mindedness on the task before them.
“We know your company has gone through trying moments but because of your able leadership you came out with success”, it observed.
The group pointed out that the award was quite remarkable due to the unprecedented stiff competition going on in the oil marketing sector as a result of the liberalisation of pricing; where the individual oil marketing companies are at liberty by the law to charge their own ex-pump price.
It noted that Togbe Adza Nyi had abundantly demonstrated that institutions of state were capable of making profit, if they operated or were managed on sound business principles and practices.
The Project Volta lauded the management of Goil for relaxing the ex-pump price when other players in the industry were hiking prices due to the upward trend in the global market price of hydrocarbon.
Interestingly, it emerged that not only is Goil undertaking the marketing of oil as the preoccupation, but also executing corporate social responsibilities.
Under Togbe Adza Nyi, the group said, the company had carried out countless social corporate activities that had tremendously benefited needy communities and individuals across the country.
A particular mention was made of the purchase and installation of dialysis machine at the Volta Regional hospital, Ho, digging of boreholes and sponsorship to major football clubs such as Hearts of Oak and Kotoko as some of their corporate responsibility programmes.
A citation embossed with Togbe’s photograph and a beautiful kente cloth together with a pair of traditional sandals was presented as gesture for his high quality managerial selfless leadership at Goil.
In his acceptance speech, Mr.Akoli said he was deeply touched by the recognition and the honour given to him by ‘Project Volta’.
“This honour has really humbled me and l must thank you (PV) for that”, he said.
He promised that Goil, under his supervision, would strife to maintain its enviable position as the leading, enviable and profitable oil marketing company in Ghana.
He indicated that the laurels bestowed on him couldn’t have been possible without the efforts and the spirit of hardworking staff of Goil and especially the unflinching support by the members of the governing board.
