The vigilance of a Ghanaian Times circulation driver, Mr Daniel Ansah, has led the Police at the Golokwati barrier to apprehend with 45 parcels of compressed leaves, suspected to be Cannabis, on Tuesday.
The police arrested one Dora Afenyo, 20, a baker, whiles her boyfriend, Houston Ntsri, 23, a native of Alavanyo and a former student of Power College, absconded when the Police were in the
process of searching the three bags and a ladies bag containing the consignment.
Mr Ansah, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency, said he offered to lift Ntsri and his girlfriend Afenyo at the Gbefi junction, about 50 metres from the Police barrier to Accra.
He said the passengers provided unsatisfactory answers about the contents of the bags, which raised his suspicion and he hinted the Police to conduct a search.
Mr Ansah said as the security personnel at the barrier attempted to search, Ntsri bolted into the bush leaving Afenyo stranded.
Afenyo told the GNA at the Hohoe police Station that even though she knew of the content, her relationship with Ntsri made her not to
report him to the law enforcement agencies.
She disclosed that Ntsri got the consignment from a friend, who asked him to convey the stuff to Accra, and that she regrets being an accomplice.
Mr Wilson Kudze, Hohoe Police Commander said the parcels would be sent to the Ghana Standard Board laboratory for forensic examination, while stepping up the search to apprehend the main architect.
He warned that the Police are on the war path to apprehend dealers and their associates in cannabis and appealed to the general public to volunteer information for their arrest.
