One more hydropower plant, the Tarpein-1, has been put into service in Myanmar's northernmost Kachin state, adding to the country's electricity generating capacity, the official daily New Light of Myanmar reported Monday.
The Tarpein-1 hydropower plant on Tarpein River in Momauk of the state was implemented by the Ministry of Electric Power-1 in joint venture and under build, operate and transfer system with the Datang (Yunnan) United Hydropower Developing Co of China.
The 240-megawatt (mw) Tarpein-1 hydropower plant comprises four 60-mw generators and will yield 1,065 million kilowatt-hours yearly.
The Tarpein-1 stands the first out of 18 hydropower plants being implemented in the Kachin state.
On completion of all the plants of its kind in the Kachin state , it will have 20,760 mw's generating capacity in the state.
According to the report, since 1988, a total of 22 hydropower plants have been built and opened in Myanmar.
